Travel
Munich, Linz, Salzburg and Prague airports are all within 2 hours drive. Munich and Prague are well served by scheduled airlines, all 3 have budget airline flights. Munich is the best for getting to the village by train (about 2 hours 50 minutes). Car is not essential as there is a station in the village and good local buses. The Czech border is 10 minutes walk from the house. There is a huge range of walks directly from the village, on both sides of the border.
Distances
Prague, Regensburg and Passau are all 1-2 hours drive. Unesco World Heritage site Cesky Krumlow is 2 hours. Salzburg is 3 hours.
Further details
Basic shops are in the village (no supermarket at the moment), also a bank with cash machine. We have a small guest shop with food and drink. There are 7 restaurants within 2-10 minutes walk. The area is famous for glass and beer and there are numerous glass works/shops and breweries to visit. Also castles and pretty mountain villages. The area is wonderfully peaceful but with lots to do.

Guest comments
We found the accommodation excellent - homely, beautifully decorated and well equipped and within walking distance of shops, playground and restaurants. We enjoyed a relaxing time and made use of the books, puzzles, games and DVDs available, the food and drink in the cellar providing a real bonus. We visited Austria and the Czech Republic. We went on local walks and took the cable car up the Arber. Our only regret is not having longer here. We have all had a marvellous time. Certainly a holiday to be recommended." Jones family, Tetbury, UK - and Emily (aged 9) says: "A wonderful place with interesting entertainment. It's in a lovely environment with lots of fun things to do outside."
"Germany was the last of 3 countries we visited in December 2005. We loved Paris and Italy but there is no doubt that Bayerisch Eisenstein was the place with the most value added. Our hosts were infallible, for whom no request for assistance was too much.
House swap
House swap/exchange considered, especially Italy/South East Europe.

About the owner
We are a British couple in our late 50s living at our apartments in Bavaria since 2005. After we bought our first house here, we found that we loved the area so much, we wanted to be here almost full time. So we are usually here to welcome our guests and are available during their stay to help out with questions, arrange tickets, book restaurants etc.
Year purchased: 2004
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We have a publishing company specialising in business information on Eastern Europe so we are occasionally away on business trips - the reason we bought property here was the convenient location, with Prague and Munich just a couple of hours away and Vienna and Frankfurt an easy half day drive away. We chose this location partly because it is lovely for holidays all year round, with plenty of snow in winter for skiing and just walking in the forest and lots of things to do and places to visit in the rest of the year. While this is a holiday area, it is never really busy and crowded.
Unique benefits of the property
The clean air, spring water, peace and quiet and friendliness of the people are the joys of being in the Bavarian Forest. The National Park is so close to our houses, you can almost reach out of the windows and touch the trees. Our houses are in a small community on the edge of the village and this is country life as it used to be. The cost of living is also lower here than in the UK! There are some excellent restaurants in the village and nearby and it is great to be able to walk to them as well as to the supermarket and the station - the hourly train service to and from the village is a real bonus. As for being able to go shopping in Prague for the day, how cool is that?
