'Les Lauriers' is a detached, modern villa with views over fields and vineyards, situated in the charming village of Mortagne sur Gironde overlooking the Gironde estuary in the Charente Maritime area of sunny, south-west France. Mortagne sur Gironde is easily accessible from the airports of La Rochelle and Bordeaux, or is an easy drive down from the port of St Malo. The village is well served with a variety of small shops (including post office and chemist) and a well-stocked Co-op. It is only a short stroll into the village for baguettes and croissants for breakfast! The nearest supermarket is ‘Super U’, about a 15 min drive away in Gemozac. Down by the pretty fishing port are a variety of restaurants and cafés. Tennis, fishing and horse riding are all available locally and it is a 20 min drive to golf courses.

Towels not provided, but linen is available at a cost of £8 per person. There is a spare set of linen for each bed which if used will also be charged at £8 per person. |

Outside
Outside you can soak up the sun in a large, ¾ acre garden. Relax on either of the 2 terraced areas around the house, or by the heated 10m x 5m private pool with sun terrace. The pool is 1.8 m at the deep end and is equipped with an underwater light for evening swimming. The purification of the pool is controlled by a saltwater system. This provides a very pleasant and safe swimming environment without using strong chlorine compounds and other chemicals, making it much kinder to the skin. The pool is fitted with an ABNOR conforming security alarm in accordance with French law. The alarm is simply deactivated by a magnet before going into the pool. Sun loungers and chairs are provided for sitting and sun bathing by the pool. For alfresco dining there is a BBQ, large patio table with chairs and parasol for the side terrace and a smaller table and chairs for the covered front terrace.
Coast/Beach
15 min drive to the nearest sandy beaches and small bays at Meschers. A much larger, sandy beach is at St Georges de Didonne, 20 mins drive away. The beach at Royan is slightly further, with many sea-front restaurants, cafes and summer entertainment. Further along the coast is the Atlantic 'cote sauvage', backed with pampas grass and sand dunes and ideal for surfers.
Golf
Royan golf course is 20 mins drive, set in the heart of the forest of la Coubre. There is a 9 hole course on the Ile d'Oleron with many water obstacles and views of ile d'Aix and Fort Boyard in the Charente estuary. A third course can be found on ile de Re at La Rochelle.
Travel
Bordeaux Airport - 1 hour. La Rochelle Airport 1 hour 30 mins. St Malo 5 hours. Caen 7 hours. Calais 8 hours. If flying, car hire is essential to explore the area.
Distances
Royan, 30 mins for shops, beaches, casino, gardens. La Palmyre 45 mins for zoo, beaches. Saintes 45 mins for Roman Amphitheatre, shops, boat trips. Bordeaux 1 hour for shopping and sightseeing. La Rochelle 1 hour 30 minutes for port, aquarium. Cognac 1 hour for distilleries and guided tours. Poitiers 2 hours for Futurascope.
Further details
The village is well served with a variety of small shops including post office, bank, chemist, butcher, baker, bar/tabac, a well-stocked Co-op and tourist office. There are some superb cycle rides in and around Mortagne. Set routes and maps are available with a rating of difficulty. Adult and children's bikes and helmets can be hired locally through 'Bike Hire Direct', an English run business who will deliver and collect from the house at very reasonable rates. Booking notes
We will send a booking confirmation for you to complete and sign and return with a 20% non-refundable deposit. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to your holiday start date. A security deposit of £250 to be paid with the balance and refunded following satisfactory house inspection.
