The villa has been beautifully transformed from an old farm building into a superb modern, open plan villa with great attention to detail. It sits in approximately 1 acre of gardens and has a 12m x 6m pool, large sun terrace, trampoline and double hammock. The villa is 6km from the town of Tarquinia, located near the Tyrrhenian sea, west of Viterbo and 80km north of Rome. Rome is of course the principal tourist destination in Lazio, but a holiday in Lazio has much more to offer than just the capital city. The historic town of Viterbo is one hours drive away, also Lakes Vico and Bolsena are great for day trips. Tarquinia is rich in art and history and one of the best places to see Etruscan tombs and has an excellent archaeological museum. The towns medieval fortifications has no less than 25 towers still standing. Wander through the pleasant town where you will see several Romanesque and Gothic churches, including the church of Santa Maria in Castello (1121).

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday. Arrival time 6pm and departure time 1pm. (this applies at busy periods).
| Bedrooms: | On the ground floor is a large bedroom with king sized bed, walk in dressing room/wardrobes and en-suite bath/shower room. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms both with king sized beds, wardrobes/dressing room and en-suite shower rooms. |
| Bathrooms: | The downstairs bathroom has a large bath separate large shower, toilet and wash basin, all with Philippe Starck fittings. The upstairs bathrooms are the same, both having a large shower, toilet and wash basin. All bathrooms are contemporary style. |
| Kitchen: | The large solid wood contemporary kitchen combines the latest stainless steel appliances with granite work surfaces. Equipment includes large sub-zero fridge/freezer, separate wine fridge, Smeg 6 burner gas range with 2 ovens and Smeg dishwasher. |
| Utility Room: | The wine fridge is housed in the utility room off the kitchen. Outside there is another utility room with washing machine. |
| Living Rooms: | The main living/dining room is spacious an airy. There are full length windows to two sides of the room, contemporary log burning fire and access to dining loggia with views of the rear garden. There is satellite TV, DVD player, Bose CD/radio system. |
| Other: | Leading from the living room there is a large loggia which runs around two sides of the villa. Part of the loggia is for outside dining and the other is outside seating, with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside and a perfect place to unwind. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
The villa supplies bath towels, beach towels and linen. It is cleaned once a week and clean bath towels are changed also. |
Notes on accommodation
Within the grounds of the villa there is a single storey house where the caretakers live. They maintain the beautiful gardens and pool and have their own separate parking an access. They are both English/Italian speaking and maintain a discreet presence. They also have an excellent knowledge of the local area and have been very helpful to renters at the villa in the past.
Due to the open aspect of the pool the villa is not suitable for very young children.
The pool is open from May to October. During the other months the pool cover will be on.
Due to the rural location of the villa, at times of the year there can be a certain amount of activity in the surrounding fields, especially at harvest time.
Outside
The villa is surrounded by a well maintained gardens, take a wander around two Mediterranean gardens with exotic plants, numerous almond trees, a cherry, fig, apricot, grape vines and a small olive grove. Sample vegetables in season from the vegetable garden including lettuce, courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes and an abundance of fresh herbs. Swing in the breeze between the palm trees on the double hammock, or bounce up and down on the 14' circular trampoline. Chill with a glass of something on the outdoor cane furniture and enjoy the view. Dine at the teak dining table and chairs by the lavender garden, framed by a curved wall. Relax on one of the six designer sun loungers, or take a plunge into the 12m x 6m pool. The villa also has a barbecue.
Coast/Beach
The villa is approximately 6km from the sea and beaches can be found on the Lido, a long stretch of sandy beach where loungers and umbrellas can be hired. During the summer months the Lido is very busy (many Romans have holiday homes here) There is a promenade that runs along the beach - great for an evening passegata, there are restaurants, gelatarias and bars.
The other beach (6 km) is Sant Agostino, where loungers etc can be hired. There are a couple of restaurants and a free beach.
Golf
Tarquinia Country Club is at Marina Velca, about 9km from the Villa. It is a 9 hole golf course and a day ticket cost 25 euros per person, this includes the use of a large pool/showers and changing rooms. Lessons can be arranged, and there is also a driving range. There is also a restaurant which serves lunch and evening meals.
Travel
There are two airports not far from the villa - Fiumicino 80km (50 minutes by car) and Ciampino 97km (1hour 15 minutes by car). Car hire is essential.
Distances
The nearest town is Tarquinia 6km from the villa. There are many places of interest to visit - Rome (a one hour train ride away). Train stations in Tarquinia (7km) and Civitavecchia (10km) have regular services to Rome, ideal for a day trip. Florence and Pisa (two and a half hours by car) Sienna (one and a half) Orvieto (1 hour) Viterbo (1 hour), as well as the Lakes Vico (smallest Italian lake) and Bolsena both within an hours drive from the villa. Ferry from Civitavecchia to Sardinia.
Further details
There are numerous restaurants in Tarquinia and on the Lido, as well as 2 supermarkets and a superstore, banks, pizzerias, gelaterias and a very good daily food market in Civitavecchia.
Booking notes
A non-refundable deposit of 10% is required to secure your booking, and 8 weeks notice for cancellations. The final balance is to be paid 8 weeks prior to holiday. A refundable damage deposit of £250 paid prior to arrival, to be included in final payment.
