Waterside 4B is in one of the most attractive locations in Praia da Luz, with pleasant well-tended gardens in front and only a short walk to the fine sandy beach that is ideal for children of all ages: such a short walk that you can wear beach clothes there and back, or nip home for a drink or snack. There is plenty of room in the paved garden for you to dine in the open air or sit in the sun or shade. Just across the 'High Street' is 'Baptista', a modern supermarket that sells everything that you could possible need. A good bus service (or Taxis if you prefer) runs from the 'town square' at the end of the road into Lagos. In our opinion Lagos is by far the nicest town in the Algarve. But 4B is not a place for those who hate cats! Nearby Roman ruins are home to a small colony of abandoned cats (neutered by the owners of 4B and fed by their friends who live nearby). Several of these come to make friends with anyone staying in 4B. They will add a delightful dimension to your holiday.

Notes on prices
Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
Sunday departures are priced to include the Sunday night.
Long-stay winter letting rates depend upon the length of stay and may be influenced by costs of electricity and gas.
A 5% reduction is offered if the total cost (including any deposit) is paid at the time of booking provided that this is more than eight weeks before the booked period.
We will offer an additional reduction if you have stayed at 4B before.

Changeover day
Thursday is preferred but not mandatory; please avoid Sundays. Sunday to Sunday stays count as 8 days. You can arrive any time after noon: keys are in a box with coded access. You must leave by 10am unless prior arrangements have been made.

Bedrooms: 1 bedroom with twin beds and wardrobes. A single sofa bed is in the living room. Cot hire if needed. Bedroom is on north side and well shaded from sun, with roller shutter to keep out light.
There is a small safe in which attractive items can be stored.
Bathrooms: Good sized bathroom with wash basin, bath/shower over, wc & bidet.
Kitchen: Separate fitted kitchen with broad marble serving counter to living room. Gas cooker with hob and oven, toaster, microwave oven and fridge. Bosch washing machine. Electric hot water storage system.
Living Rooms: Living/dining room has sliding French window with a pleasing outlook to the garden (see photo). Cable TV (e.g. BBC, ITV, Sky Sports and News). 2 comfortable armchairs and small (single) sofabed. Dining table and chairs. Pedestal fan.
Other: There is a sunbed, sun umbrella, table and chairs for visitors who enjoy outside living.
The yard at the rear could be used to store equipment such as a roof rack.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and linen are provided; maid service is once a week, but this could be more frequent by arrangement.

 

Notes on accommodation
Heating is not often needed, but a fan heater and electric radiator are provided just in case. All-night electric blankets are in the cupboard but have never been used! There is ample wardrobe space (hanging and shelves) and a chest of drawers.

Accessibility
The accommodation is on the same level, with a very small step into the garden. There are two conventional steps leading up from the pathway to the garden. The apartment has not been adapted for wheelchair users and access to one of the twin beds could be difficult because of width restrictions. The other bed, nearest to the bathroom, should present no unusual problems.

Outside
A sliding glazed door leads from the living room to the paved garden, where there is room to dine or lounge. There is a table (with umbrella and dining chairs) and loungers. A locker by the gate is used to store food for the cats. There is a small yard at the back, outside the bedroom and accessible through a sliding glazed door. Part of the space is sheltered by the stairway to the first floor apartment, and might be useful for temporary storage of low-value equipment.
There is a parking bay at the front of the lawn and ample parking space in nearby service roads.

Coast/Beach
The beach is only a short walk away, and the famous Black Rock cliffs can be seen from the garden. The main beach is sandy and ideal for young children, with rock pools to explore nearby at low tide.
A variety of water sports are available in season.
A pleasant promenade has seating for the less mobile to enjoy the view.
A few minutes' walk to the west leads to a rocky coast where experts hunt fish using schnorkels and spears.
Within easy driving range there are good surfing beaches.

Golf
The Algarve is famous for its golf courses. The nearest is Boa Vista, about 1km distant. Also within easy reach are Parque da Floresta, Palmares (said to be the finest location of all) and the internationally renowned Penina Golf.

Travel
The nearest airport is Faro. New roads have reduced the driving time to about 1 hour. There is an economical shuttle bus service from the airport, or Taxis are available at around £60 for a single journey. Adventurous visitors can take the train!
Though a car is a great advantage, it is not essential; there are many firms to choose from but we always use Luz Cars (email luzcarentacar@clix.pt). There is a good bus service from the village centre to Lagos and the western coastal towns.

Distances
Lagos is about 10 minutes drive away. Many people think that it is by far the nicest town in the area. Within easy drive you can reach the west coast and find unspoiled beaches with Atlantic surf.
For the more adventurous, the new A22 motorway makes day-trips to Lisbon, the Alentejo and Spain feasible.

Further details
Within a few minutes easy walking there are a good selection of shops including a comprehensive modern supermarket. Equally near is a wide variety of bars and restaurants providing all kinds of cuisine, including a 'pub' for the homesick Brit!
Not so near and inaudible (thankfully) there is a nightclub, but do not expect too much in the way of 'bright lights'. The loudest noise at night is usually the waves breaking on the beach.
The better restaurants stay open during the winter months.
