This is a child-friendly family villa with spacious guest rooms with twin or double beds. 3 have access to the south facing sun patio and garden with orange tree, palms and mature bougainvillea. Meals are taken on the large sun terrace with amazing views over the sea. If the heat should be too much, shade is provided under the bougainvillea that grows rampant over walls. In winter a log fire adds comfort. Local amenities include a wide range of restaurants, beach bars, shops, golf and tennis. Fresh bread rolls can be bought daily from the bakery, 100m down the road. The internet cafe is a similar distance from the villa. Approx 1 hour drive from Faro airport with good flights from all major airports. Regular bus service to Lagos, cheap taxis and a coastal rail link make car hire not essential. Close to 3 excellent golf courses. Tennis, swimming, horse riding facilities closeby. Banks, cinema, chemist, dentist and doctors are all English speaking, friendly and welcoming to visitors.

Notes on accommodation
Built in the 1970s the villa was designed with space and an awareness of what it is like to live in a hot climate. Overhanging roofs, plants and shutters keep the rooms very cool in summer. The wood - burning fire and electric heaters and the south facing aspect provide warmth in winter. Very small children will need to be supervised on the staircases but the walled garden makes it very safe and private for families. The views over the sea and the mature gardens directly behind the villa provide a wide variety of interest from passing shipping to exotic birds and colourful flora.
Outside
There is a large south facing walled garden with a rear gate giving access to private pathways that meander through a quiet residential area to the beach. Guests can pick their own oranges for breakfast. The first floor sun terrace has patio furniture for relaxing and eating 'alfresco' with shading provided by climbing plants and a large sun awning. There is a gas BBQ for use by guests. The lower sun patio has sun loungers and individual private seating for quiet contemplation.
Coast/Beach
The villa is in the lovely seaside village of Praia da Luz, 5km west of the old, charming port of Lagos. The beach is very safe for swimming and would suit all ages. It is a 5 min stroll down to the beach - and a 6 min stroll back up the slight hill. In summer there are plenty of beach activities organised for families, while in winter the beach is quiet and unspoilt.
Golf
Local golf courses include Parque de Floresta 15 mins. Boa Vista 5 mins. Palmares 20 mins. Pennina 25 mins. The most recently completed course is only 5 mins drive from Casa Girassol, at Boa Vista. Parque da Floresta is well known for its challenging, hilly course, just west of Luz. Palmares and Pennina have both hosted international golfing events and are just east of Lagos.
Tennis is a popular sport all year round with some excellent courts within walking distance. Social tennis can be enjoyed regularly in the local clubs at Lagos and Burgau.
Horse riding is a growing interest in the area with some excellent facilities for all ages and stages located within 10 mins drive from the villa.
There are many walking groups operating all year round. This is a favourite occupation during the cooler months of winter where walkers can enjoy the beauty of the many coastal paths and the amazing scenery of the local mountains.
Travel
Faro is the nearest airport although some guests do fly into Lisbon and drive 2 hours down excellent motorways to reach Luz. Sevills airport is also within easy driving distance. Faro is approx 1 hours drive from the villa. It is very easy driving on a good and very quiet motorway. Car hire is not essential for a short holiday in Luz as all facilities can be reached easily by foot, bus or rail.
Distances
Casa Girassol is very close to all amenities - walking distance. Local buses stop at the top of the road and travel to the main town of Lagos. Fares are very reasonable.
