Yavanna is a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the commercialised world. Made up of two completely separate self-contained 3-bed houses, Yavanna lies only a few miles from the border with the province of Galicia, in Spain. Small houses and farms are dotted around the lush green rural landscape, surrounded by small fields. Connecting these fields are granite tracks which often have grapevines growing overhead. Its village, Fontoura, lies on the Pilgrim's way, the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Beautiful rivers flow into this region from Spain. The river Lima has the historical and beautiful towns of Ponte de Barca, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo on its banks. The River Minho has interesting old monuments along its banks including the fortified town of Valenca do Minho, which is only 3 miles from Yavanna. Safe lifeguard patrolled swimming and fishing in the Minho is only 10 minutes from Yavanna. The southern border of the region is another beautiful river, the Douro.

Notes on prices
The 1st column is per house per week. The 2nd column is a reduced weekly price for both houses should they be rented together.
Please contact us if you want exclusive use but want less than 6 rooms - we are often flexible.
We have 2 extra double en suite bedrooms that can be rented for large groups at an extra daily cost - see 3rd column. This is a "per room per night" cost and need not be rented for a full week.
Please divide by 1.25 to calculate approx UK Pounds.

Notes on accommodation
The Yavanna property has two houses to let, and a third where the owner lives part of the year. The traditional Minho farmhouses date from 1730 and have been completely renovated in the past two years to a very high standard.
The houses are nicely furnished and equipped. Each has its own kitchen, living room, outside eating area, garden, etc. This means that two families can enjoy a holiday together, but not get on top of each other. Or two families can rent independently, and enjoy their own space. As well as each house having its own garden and outside eating area, there is a shared car park, large garden and large pool, with plenty of room for all.
We do everything we can to make your holiday very special. We are available for help and advice, but as the same time very sensitive to your need for privacy.
Towels and linen is provided, beds are changed weekly, and we take great pride in our standard of cleanliness, with a local professional company cleaning weekly.
Accessibility
The property has ancient cobbled paths, so it is not really suitable for wheelchair users or people using walking sticks unfortunately.
Also it is a walk across cobbled paths to the swimming pool, at the far end of the property.
Both houses have stairs, so the properties are only suitable for people who can climb stairs.
Outside
The large garden is one of Yavanna's key features. It has lots of different zones to chill out an get away from it all. The pool is large, 12m x 6m, with stunning views. It also has a raised relaxation area.
There is a peaceful garden with secret corners, an ancient working well and quiet areas. Grapevines, lemon, fig, olive and orange trees provide the perfect shade on a hot day. Hammocks and plenty of seating around the garden.
Yavanna overlooks rural farmland, small hamlets with the Minho hills in the background.
Coast/Beach
Surf beaches within a half an hour drive of Yavanna, there are stunning sandy Atlantic surfing beaches. Portugal offers the best warm surfing in Europe with over 500 miles of consistent waves and no shortage of sunshine.
Huge sandy beaches offer surf school and lifeguard patrolled areas. There is also a world renowned windsurfing spot at nearby Mindelo.
At the mouth of the Minho River, there are very safe clean sheltered family beaches, with plenty of activities.
Golf
Ponte de Lima (half an hour away) is a par 71, 6005m, including Portugal's longest hole at 622m (par 5).
Quinta da Barca golf resort (half an hour away) is an excellent 9 hole course with stunning views over the Cavado River. Par 31, 2012m.
Estela (one hour away) is built on a 3km stretch of sand dunes is one of the Portuguese golf links that secured a good reputation for itself when it hosted two events in the European Professionals' Circuit. Par 72, 6129m.
Special interest holidays
Pottery, cycling, yoga, massage, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, etc. can be arranged.

Overall, we had a lovely relaxing time, and would definitely recommend the accommodation and area to anyone considering a visit. The house and gardens were attractive and peaceful, with lovely mountain views, and a large swimming pool area - the water was clean and warm. The villa itself was clean, well equipped and had everything we needed. The owner (Eunice) was on hand with help and advice, and looked after us well, but also allowed us our privacy. There was plenty to see and do in the area, and we made good use of the bikes, as well as kayaking in the Minho River, swimming in the sea, surfing, trips into Spain etc. It was great to find an unspoilt part of the world not overrun with tourists, and we'll be back next year. Travel
Flights: There are a large number of airlines offering flights to the region - many at cheap prices. The nearest airports are Vigo (45 mins), Porto (1 hour), Santiago de Compostela (1½ hours). E.g. Air Portugal (www.FlyTap.com), Ryanair, Clickair, PGA Airlines, Air Berlin, Air France, SN Brussels Airlines, Hapag-Lloyd Express, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Swiss.
It is also possible to catch the Plymouth or Portsmouth ferries to Northern Spain and drive 7 hours approx to Yavanna.
Distances
Within the immediate area, we have some very interesting towns and cities worth visiting: Porto is Portugal's second city, famous for its port wine trade, is just an hour's drive away. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal.
Santiago de Compostela is just 1½ hour away over the border in Spain. It is a city where, according to a legend, the remains of the apostle Saint James were found. Nowadays the stunning city of Santiago is the second most important Catholic Pilgrimage centre.
Further details
Although Yavanna is quiet and rural, supermarkets, banks, restaurants, towns, etc. are all available within a 10-15 minute drive.
Booking notes
A deposit of 50% is payable at the time of booking and the balance is due 6 weeks before coming to Yavanna. All rental weeks run Saturday to Saturday. We hope you understand that it is a requirement of booking that you are fully insured. Please contact us if you would like to rent just one of the houses rather than both. It may be possible to offer you a reduced price if it not a busy week. If cancellation is made within 28 days of arrival then we're sorry but payment cannot be refunded.
