Situated in the village of Rostos with local shop, bar, cafe and restaurant. Casa Jamada is a fully modernised house with private south facing courtyard and splash pool with views over the surrounding hills with their grape vines and fruit trees. The modern bustling town of Caldas da Rainha is around 15 minutes away with a daily fruit, produce and flower market and superb shops and supermarkets. The Obidos lagoon with its warm shallow water and water sport facilities is some 15/20 minutes as are the lovely beaches of Sao Martinho do Porto and Foz do Arelho to name but 2. The golf courses of Royal Obidos and Golden Eagle at Rio Maior are nearby and a further championship course is being built at Praia d'el Rey 20 minutes away.

Kitchen: Fridge/freezer, washing machine, stainless steel gas hob and combination microwave with oven and grill facilities. Spacious open plan living and dining area with large dining table.
Living Rooms: 3 piece suite occasonal tables etc. Sky TV 32" (bring your own card), video and DVD player. Adjoining dining area with table and 6 chairs. French doors out to secluded sunny courtyard.
Other: Private, secluded courtyard with sun loungers, outdoor dining table/chairs and brick built BBQ. Games room with table tennis, darts etc. Please note main picture of house shows gates open courtyard is totally private.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Rental rates include cleaning before and after your visit. All towels (excluding beach towels) and linen are provided and are changed weekly.

 

Notes on accommodation
The two upstairs bedrooms look out over the courtyard and pool to the hillside beyond with its vines and fruit trees. One of the double bedrooms has its own balcony with table and chairs (a quiet spot to have that morning cup of tea and keep an eye on the pool).

Living Costs: meal in village from 5€.meal in good restaurant from around 12€. bottle wine in shop 1 euro for good wine. about 4 euros in restaurant. beer 1€, coffee 70 cents. Car hire £70pw (auto europe),flights and house payable in sterling So Portugal is cheap!

Accessibility
We have tried to make Casa Jamada totally wheelchair friendly and the house can be accessed from the courtyard via a gentle slope and all of the ground floor is on one even level. The downstairs bedroom and ajoining bathroom all have adequate room for a wheelchair.

Outside
The splash pool is approx 3.5 metres x 1.5metres and a metre deep. it has in pool seating areas on both sides and is an ideal place to cool off whilst enjoying a cold beer or a glass of the excellent local wine. The pool is not heated but due to its size and location in a south facing courtyard is never very cold.

Coast/Beach
Peniche the surf capital of Portugal is less than 30 mins away. It also has facilities for diving jet skiing etc as well as safe sandy beaches that stretch for miles with beachside cafes and bars. Obidos lagoon 20 mins away offers safe, shallow warm bathing flushed daily by the Atlantic Ocean. Sailing, jet skiing and water skiing facilities are all available on this huge expanse of water. The beaches of Sao Martino do Porto, Baleal and Foz do Alhelro are all excellent and within 30 mins

Golf
The golf courses of Obidos (Royal) and Rio Maior (The Golden Eagle) are both championship courses and are less than 30 minutes away. A further course designed by Seve Ballesteros is in the process of being constructed at Praia de la Rey.

Skiing
Waterskiing on the Obidos lagoon 20 minutes, diving at Peniche 20 minutes.

Travel
Car hire is really essential but is reasonably priced in Portugal. The main airport is Lisbon 40 minutes away on excellent roads. Flights from the UK leave from Luton and others.

Distances
Caldas da Rainha main local town with 3 huge supermarkets, traditional shops and markets, cafes and parks is only 10 to 15 minutes away on excellent roads, and the supermarkets are mainly on our side of town. Obidos with its palace and quaint winding streets is a must and only 15 minutes away. Nazare with tourist shops, quaint narrow winding streets and spectacular views is some 40 mins. Batalha with its massive church and peaceful pedestrian areas is worth a visit 40 mins.

Further details
Other places all within an hour and most much nearer are Torres Vedras, steeped in history (duke of Wellington and the Peninsular War). Alcobacha with its monastry and church now open to the public. Much of the silver coast is still undeveloped and many of the villages and towns have remained unchanged for centuries.
The local people throughout the region are very kind and friendly. Most adults speak no English (except in the shops) but many of the children do, some very well, as they learn it at school and enjoy trying it out. They also enjoy teaching you a little Portuguese.
