Car hire is recommended to make the most of the many activities available in the area: the beaches of Cascais and the Lisbon coast, the renowned golf courses, the cultural buzz and nightlife of Lisbon and the hiking and sight-seeing in the Sintra national parks and heritage areas. But it’s also possible to spend the day by the pool and then make the 5 minute walk to one of the restaurants in the village of Manique (the fresh seafood is amazing).

Coast/Beach
Many beautiful sandy beaches within a 10-15 minute car journey.
Golf
There are 7 golf clubs within 20-30 minutes drive of the apartment. The clubs that I have played have all been friendly and maintained to an excellent standard. There’s also something special about playing in the sunshine within sight of the Atlantic coast! I recommend the visit Lisboa website for more details on the courses. Club hire is available but can be expensive (20-30 Euros) so it’s advisable to bring your own clubs if you plan to play several times.
Special interest holidays
The attractions of the area are well recognized by sports planners, who have made it the location for the most important of Portugal’s sporting events. This includes (all at Estoril): PGA Golf (27 - 30 March). Portuguese Tennis Open (12 - 20 April). Formula One motorcycling (mid- September). The Portuguese round of the World Body-boarding championship at Praia Grande(23 - 27 August).
Travel
Lisbon airport is a 30 minute drive in good traffic. Monarch, Easy Jet and TAP Portugal are the main carriers from the UK. There are a number of car rental companies based at the airport, I have always used Europcar and not had any problems.
Distances
A 5 minute walk to the quaint village of Manique which has the necessary amenities (bank, small supermarket, café) and 2 good restaurants.
Booking notes
If the booking is made within eight weeks of the letting the whole of the rental payment is to be forwarded with your booking form, together with the security deposit of £200. If the booking is made prior to eight weeks of the letting a rental deposit of 25% of the rental sum is to be forwarded with your booking form. The remaining balance of the rental sum and the security deposit of £200 are to then due eight weeks prior to the letting.
