Notes on accommodation
The property has a combined air-conditioning and heating system. It is arranged over three floors with terraces on the first and second floors. I would suggest that any parents with young children should ensure that they are no left unprotected when they are on the first or second floors. I strongly advise that children under the age of ten will need to be supervised at all times, due to both the presence of the pool, and the fact that the property is arranged over three floors.
Accessibility
The property has a downstairs toilet and bath, which is wide enough for access, but given the layout of the property with the bedrooms, the first floor, second floor, it will not be suitable for wheel chair access.
Outside
This can also be accessed through the side entrance which leads to the garage and the pool. There is a well maintained flower bed to the front of the house and a lovely landscaped garden to the rear of the property. There is a six metre private pool to the rear of the property with outside shower facilities. The pool is two metres deep at the deep end and 1/5 metre at the swallow end. The pool is not heated. There is a patio area with barbecue grills and outdoor furniture, comprising of a table and sitting for six, which is stored in the garage area when not in usage.
Coast/Beach
The eastern side of the Algarve is noted for its warmer and less crowded beaches. The beach of Monta Rota is visible from the Villa and lies approximately 1.5 miles away, taking approximately a 20 mins stroll or 4 mins by car. To the west you have the beaches of Ilha de Tavira and the Barril, slightly west of Tavira which are uniquely accessed by boat and trains respectively. Praia Verde and Monta Gordo to the east of Cacela are also worth a visit.
Golf
There are 4 excellent 18 hole golf courses nearby. The Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima golf courses are the nearest, with Benamor golf a good second best. Moreover, the Monte Rei Golf and Country Club is about 3km away. Its first, a Jack Nicklaus Signature 18-hole Golf Course and opened in the summer of 2007. It is reputed to be the most exclusive development of its kind in the Eastern Algarve. Surrounded by over 400 hectares of the most beautiful countryside.
Travel
The nearest airport is Faro Airport, and there are frequent flights on a daily basis, particularly during the peak Summer months. The villa is 45km from Faro going eastwards, and takes about 40 mins to drive there. Taxis are available from the airport and are available withing the village if necessary. The local buses and particularly the trains are an attraction in themselves, and I have found it a pleasant experience to share a few days of the life of the local friendly people of these parts.
Distances
Monte Grodo to the east with the beach attractions, casino, restaurants and bars is 10km away. Tavira is also 11km away. The village of Cabanas with is Moorish heritage is 5kms away. Drive for 15 mins east, across the bridge that divides Portugal from Spain and you are in Ayamante, its worth a half day trek for the contrast. The old Town of Tavira mus be visited in this part of the Algarve. If you are the exploring type, a drive to sevilla is 1 hour 20 mins away.
Further details
There a local food market open every day until 12 noon. The shops close around 1pm daily and then reopen around 3pm. Restaurants generally close around 3pm ad then open around 7pm in the evening. There are small shops for every convenience within the local village, 5 mins walk away. Here you will find banks, post offices, pharmacies, electrical goods, food items etc. Their are also numerous local restaurants opened on the road to the village and on the main road N125 which runs through Cacela. The village is very much Portuguese and it is helpful to know a few phrases since very few people speak English. Obriga and Obrigado after anything does get you far, as well as bom dia, Boa tarde! The coastline on the Eastern side of the Algarve is largely protected (Rio Farmosa), so there are great walks to be made around this area. Cycling is a big pursuit of the Portuguese and many foreigners take up the activity as well, the market for renting bikes is not that developed so many people take their bikes on holiday. The Easter Algarve is really about relaxation, and there many water world adventures for the kids to cool off from the ranging heat at this of the year. Dotted along the coast there are sign posting of national heritage sites that are generally free to visit. The Algarve from east to west can be easily be driven in a day, so to remind yourself of the stark contrast of east versus west.
